[28 Aug 2009|04:46am]

Read more...Collapse )

[ mood | hopeful ]

Could anyone please be so kind as to share, or point me towards the English subtitles for Peter Lindmark's Exit? I've been searching for it for the longest time but so far I've only found Swedish subtitles...

Thanks in advance.

Mannen Som Elsket Yngve [17 Mar 2008|05:42pm]

[ mood | bouncy ]

The best Norwegian movie I've ever seen. Warmly recommended. Not sure when it'll be available to watch in other countries, but here is the theatrical trailer subbed by me.

"The Virgin Spring" [17 Jun 2007|02:22am]

(1960) (AKA "Jungfrukällan")
Directed by Ingmar Bergman.
89 minutes, Swedish.

Unfortunately, this review of is going to miss a very important aspect when considering the film. According to the opening credits, it is an adaptation of a 13th century Swedish ballad. I don't speak Swedish and am not sure where to find it in the first place. So, if anyone knows anything more about it please feel free to fill me in as I am always interested.

Earlier this year, I realized that one of the great names in film that I had completely missed was Ingmar Bergman, perhaps one of the most celebrated directors of all time. While in Denmark earlier this year, conversations with Danes about Bergman sparked my curiosity, combined with a distant glimpses of some of his work, mainly "The Seventh Seal" (1957) due to the distinctive and highly influential imagery surrounding the film.

Good contemporary Danish films? [08 Apr 2007|07:51pm]

I'm looking to expand beyond Susanne Bier, Anders Thomas Jensen and Lars von Trier because these are basically the only directors whose films I've watched. I like their films but I'd like to broaden my scope.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of Danish films made in the last ten years? I'm not worried about their availability in the States as I can buy them online and play them on my computer.

Finnish Film [14 Feb 2007|11:06am]

A friend of mine is desperate to find a copy (preferably DVD but even VHS) of the 1953 Finnish film Valkoinen Peura (English title: The White Reindeer).

She hasn't had any luck finding it through major US/British sites, and neither of us read Finnish.  She doesn't even care if it's in Finnish without subtitles - she just really wants to see it.

If anyone can refer me to a place where we could find it, she'd/we'd appreciate it!

Hmmmm [09 Sep 2006|07:09pm]

Have there been any recent Finnish drama (preferably melancholic) or action movies either decently good or so terribly bad they're worth watching? (Hopefully with English subtitles available somewhere. Great soundtrack a plus.)

Umur obsession [24 Jul 2006|01:16am]

Hello, everyone!

I'm desperate to find a movie I saw once some 4 or 5 years ago - it's Finnish and it's called Umur.

Last month I went to Helsinki and asked for it in several shops. They all said the movie was sold out. There's none in online stores either.

What do I do? Any suggestions? I loved this movie and it's been haunting me ever since I saw it. Will I never see it again?

[11 Jul 2006|03:24pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

hey guys, i'm here to recommend a swedish foreign film i've seen recently. it's called mitt liv som hund [the english translation is: my life as a dog]. it was made in 1985 and was nominated for two oscars. but that doesn't really matter, because a film can be the best ever to you and not be nominated for any awards. this is truly one of the most interesting, different and most beautiful films ever made. here's the introduction/review from the back of the video:

- the film is set in the 1950's. twelve-year-old Ingemar Johansson lives with his elder brother and sick mother. Ingemar loves his mother but his natural high spirits and mischievous pranks are a trial for her. she becomes bedridden with a terminal illness and is given to temper tantrums which alternate with silent withdrawal. by applying his own very personal philosohy and his wild sense of humour, Ingemar manages to distance himself from catastrophe time after time. one of Ingemar's ways of getting around moments of crises is to go down on his knees to feign the barking of a dog. -

i urge you to see this film, it's absolutely amazing!

Familien Gregersen [22 Jun 2006|03:01pm]

[ mood | Cheerful ]

Has anyone seen the Danish movie "Familien Gregersen" that was released a couple of years ago?
I've just bought the DVD, and I just love it :)
I've had the books for ages, so I've been waiting to see the movie as well.
The movie is based on the Danish author Christian Kampmann's four novels about the everyday (but not quite ordinary) life of a Danish family during the years 1954–1974.

I've uploaded the trailer (app. 24 MB) if anyone's interested…

Lukas Moodysson [15 Jun 2006|10:37am]

Hello everyone,

I am an Australian fan of the director Lukas Moodysson. I'm looking for 3 of his films that have unfortunately not been released here: Terrorists, A Hole in my Heart and Container.

Does anybody know where I can find these films? Does anybody here have them? I would be quite happy to pay somebody to make a copy for me.

Any opinions?

Pusher Trilogy will be screened in the US [07 Feb 2006|03:36pm]

Oh hell yes! This has seriously made my day. Dark Horizons reports that Nicholas Winding Refn's Pusher Trilogy has been acquired for US distribution. Here's the link.

Apparently, they will be experimenting with the screenings, having select theaters run the trilogy back-to-back-to-back.

Begging for help [04 Feb 2006|11:37pm]

Hello everybody!

I apologize if my question is not connected to the usual discussions here, but I'm desperate.
The thing is I am looking for a few Finnish movies (I'm currently living in Sweden and won't be able to travel across the Baltic for quite a while).

Could any of you recommend an Internet store in Finland that would send the DVDs by post to Sweden? Here I use Discshop.se and very pleased with it. I'm really craving for those movies.

Trailer for Efter Bryllupet [28 Jan 2006|11:02am]

For those of you outside of Scandinavia, here's a link to the trailer for the latest Susanne Bier/Anders Thomas Jensen collaboration, Efter Bryllupet (After The Wedding). It's not subtitled, however, so if anyone would like to volunteer to translate any of the key dialog, please be my guest.
